Week 5 - Juan Boza: Getting to the Homestretch!
Getting to the Homestretch!
Five weeks have gone by, and immersion is coming to an end. So little time and so much to do. For this, the days are getting longer, and the tension is increasing. It almost feels as everything is unbalancing in a balancing manner. Do you know what I mean? It is like every day there is more chaos, but not in a bad way. It is like finals week after a great semester, LOL! Just like getting to the homestretch. Although this week was tiring, I did so much and made so much progress. I enjoyed great meals with friends and watched so many incredible surgeries. I feel like this week is the pinnacle of my experience.

You probably think that I am about to tell you the usual things I talk about. Instead, I rather change it up a little bit. To start, I hope your week was as good as mine. I did not do my regular routine. Instead, I decided to focus more on research and tag along with some of my friends for some of their surgeries. Tuesdays and Wednesdays were great, I had the privilege to watch plastic surgeries and interventional radiology (IR) procedures. This was mind-blowing!!! I bet you haven't seen anything similar. I am impressed with what medicine can do nowadays. There is one thing though, carrying the lead suit for the IR procedures is tiring. If you don't believe me, just look at the picture below. Still, I learned so much that I am grateful for the opportunity.
Apart from those activities, I made much progress towards my project. I processed about 30,000 nail images that will serve to train the AI. This took several hours and a lot of coding. Believe me, I was blissful after the last image was processed. Just to mention some of the conditions, now I have images of normal, melanocytic, and onychomycotic nails. AMAZING! I am excited to see what the results are (even if they are bad, lol). Currently, I am uploading all these images so that I can use GPU services. The estimated time for this is like 7 hours, Da***.
And well, I hope you had a productive week like mine,
Stay tuned for the final round.
